On A Secret Mission

That’s how COMPANY introduces themselves. COMPANY is a Helsinki-based design practice that was founded by Johan Olin and Aamu Song – who describe themselves as designers, artists, and producers.

I am meeting both of them at the café of Helsinki’s contemporary art museum, Kiasma. They have contributed some textile pieces to the KIMPASSA/TOGETHER exhibition, which has been produced by Kiasma and the legendary Finnish fashion brand Marimekko. The exhibition brings together Finland’s biggest names in fashion, design, and art.

The Finnish-Korean couple has been surprising the art and design world with their ideas since 2000.Olin and Song’s wide range of eclectic projects includes the design of a concert space in the woods as part of Our Festival; the creation of Furniture in the Woods, which will enhance every picnic experience; and REDDRESS, a giant red dress made out of 550 meters of fabric that allowed up to 238 people to sit on it and enjoy different kinds of performances.
